It can cause a lot of problems when people misinterpret or don't understand it. And lots of modern believers do avoid reading the old testament, especially books of the law like Leviticus and Deuteronomy (because they can be hard to understand).
For me personally, I enjoy reading the narratives of old testament figures like Abraham, David, Joshua, Moses, Solomon, Isaac, etc. etc. These people were far from perfect and much of what we learn from them is in taking note of the mistakes they made. It gives me comfort knowing that if God can use them then he can possibly use me despite the numerous mistakes I make.
Then there are the accounts of people like Job and Joseph. These stories provide such great encouragment as you see how they navigated and overcame such great hardship. Reading their stories provides hope.
Wisdom and poetry books like Psalms and Proverbs are also encouraging and easy to read with their straight forward style and memorable sayings.
I'd encourage everyone to read the Bible. Even if you don't believe it is divinely inspired you can still learn from the collective wisdom of what it contains. It seems that the atheist book the OP started this thread about would contain a good collection of human wisdom and knowledge. I don't know about it being representative of the beliefs of all atheist, but it most likely contains good information from the experiences of those who have gone before us. I would like to think that non-believers could view the Bible in much the same way regardless of whether they believe in God.

I always interpreted it as a handwritten note. I guess we won't know unless the guy post a photo of the actual note (if it in fact exists)...
I find it very disturbing that an adult man would have to ask his wife for permission to buy an iPad, much less return one because she said "No."

Has nobody ever done something, only to have someone close to them (like a spouse, a sibling, a friend, ...) call them out on it to say "Hey, you know, given your current situation, maybe that wasn't a wise move"? Has nobody ever taken such advice, thought on it, then concluded "You know what, my friend is right"? Or is everyone truly hung up on this attitude of "I'M the only one who knows what's best for me, so stay outta my face"?

Something like:
1.83 Ghz Core Duo 2 (Conroe)
512 gig Ram (4 memory slots)
160Gig 3.5" SATA Drive (and one additonal empty bay)
Dual Layer Superdrive
PCIe Video Card (ATI X1600 or NVidia 7300GT)
1 additional PCI slot
Bluetooth/Airport
in something like a mini-tower case (about 2/3 size of Mac Pro)
Starting about what the iMac starts at ($1199)... With a more loaded one
2.16Ghz, 1Gig Ram, 250Gig HD, better video (say 7600GT) going up to $1599 or so...
Crossing my fingers for the 12th!

The banner is just a collection of current Apple products all the photos are available in the press section of their website. What I don't understand though is if WWDC is going to promo a load of new products why have a banner that is going to be completely out of date? :confused:
Wouldn't it be better to highlight items that will remain or just make it generic. Why not keep it hidden like previous years until the day of the conference.
Who wants to bet nothing new looking at all will be announced just new technology in the same old cases! ;)

How would the built-in tuner make the iPod worse? Don't want to use it? Then don't. And what if you want a tuner AND some other missing feature? Can you stack accessories to the iPod? Would it look nice?
That said, I AM planning to get that 80GB iPod :). Although that Black Nano looks gorgerous as well....

What's with the focus on 'sold out'? Simply limit your passes well below the projected numbers of participants, and there you go, sold out. It's just a math game and a marketing ploy.
But how many tickets were actually for sale? 3000? 5000? 10,000? Remember that the conference center needs to house all the Apple employees, the contractors, and of course all the booths/rooms.
I would imagine that Apple purposely plans events (timing as well as location) that WILL sell out. Apple doesn't want to hold an event where only 50% of the conference hall is filled.
Selling out in 12 hours may not be all that it's cracked up to be. But in theory if 100% of the attendees are truly developers, I could see a fast sellout.
You and a few other thousand engineers. What hasn't been said is how many tickets were sold. I would be curious to see if Apple limited the amount of tickets the first round to get hype and "additional tickets" will go on sale later this week.

I had a pretty annoying RSS on my week 30 white 1.83 MacBook. Typically it would go for 7-8 hours before shutting down, at which point I'd leave it to cool for half an hour or so before restarting the cycle. I am a student and simply cannot do without my laptop for a week to get the heatsink replaced, so I was simply living with it.
Keenly applied the firmware update today and it was running OK, until this. First one on the MacBook. Really hope this is a one-off.

I doubt this one. Would be too expensive and not provide enough value/oomph/bragging rights for consumers.
Got my kid a 3ds and the 3d is cool and yet glad you can turn it off. It gets in the way sometimes and its a relief to go back into 2d after being in 3d a bit.
I don't get headaches but is definitely works your eyes more.

Well maybe the WiFi on the vPod will actually be useful for something, like buying tracks or syncing with your PC/Mac or even some light web browsing...
